How to. Make your own Wooden Frame ♡

I've been keeping safely a couple of beautiful posters waiting to find them a nice frame... if this is your case too, it's time to hang them on the wall and take them out of that little corner! 🙃 This is a really easy way to make yourself a nice and simple frame.

MATERIALS

  1. (x4) WOOD Sticks. I used Pine, with 2,7cm width and 0,9cm thick. *Measure poster width before to make sure the Wood length is enough.

  2. (x8) NEODYM Magnets, 19mm diameter ones work right. *Neodym ones are very strong.

  3. (x2) Metallic frame hangers (I used 12x14mm)

  4. Cord. (I used "fique", you can use Thick Cotton cord, and use a Crochet needle to make a nice chain)

  5. Masking Tape (Optional)

  6. A NICE POSTER! ☺︎

TOOLS

  1. Pencil

  2. Ruler

  3. Sandpaper.

  4. Handsaw or Jigsaw.

  5. Wood GLUE.

CUTTING THE WOOD

Start by setting a mark on the stick based on the Poster length, so you can cut right in there with a handsaw or jigsaw and then use the sand paper to soften the edges.

*If you don't have the tools to cut the wood you can ask where you buy the wood if they can cut it. Make sure you have your Poster width measurements with you. 😉

PASTING MAGNETS

The magnets will be the ones holding the poster, so you have to paste them close to the edge but not too close. In my case my poster width is 68cm and I pasted the magnets 14cm from the edges.

What's most important is that all the magnets are alined so they actually fit together. They have to be centered in the wood.

*Try not to use small magnets (Like 10mm diameter) you need more surface to hold the poster correctly.

Take in to account that the 2 woods + the 2 magnets will make up the frame thickness (as shown on the image to the right).

So there are 2 ways of doing this part. You can make room in the wood so the magnets fit inside and they won't be an extra thickness, or in my case I simply pasted them directly on the wood, because I didn't have the tools to make room for the magnets inside the wood.

If you are doing this my way, your magnets shouldn't be too thick, mine are 3mm aprox.

I pasted the magnets and the Metal hangers on the wood with GLUE and let it rest for 24h, it depends on the Glue instructions.

IMPORTANT!!

1. PASTE THE MAGNETS SO THAT THEY ATTRACT THEMSELVES ♥︎ NOT REPEL !!!

2. KEEP WOOD NICE SIDE ON THE EXTERIOR! in this step you are pasting the magnets in the inside part of th frame.

CORD

You can use a cord as it is or I made a crochet chain to make it stronger and also give it a more rustic look since both posters had a marine theme I thought it would look nicer. So this detail depends on your poster's style.

PUT THE POSTER IN THE FRAME

If you don't want the Frame to hide part of the poster, you can add some masking tape to gain height. Paste it carefully on the back on the poster.
